Lymphatic Therapy

Manual lymphatic drainage, scar tissue work, and lymphedema care for recovery after cosmetic, cancer, and orthopedic surgery.

Unhurried care for the healing body

Healing after surgery asks a lot of the body. Swelling, tightness, tender scars, and a body that suddenly feels unfamiliar are all part of the path. Here, your recovery is given time and attention.

I'm Elise Frost, a Certified Lymphedema Therapist and licensed massage therapist trained in the Vodder method of Manual Lymphatic Drainage. My private studio sits beside our regenerative farm in the woods of Ellettsville, just outside Bloomington. Here, I offer skilled lymphatic and scar tissue care for people recovering from cosmetic, cancer, and orthopedic surgery, and for those living with cancer-related lymphedema.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Your lymphatic system quietly carries extra fluid and waste away from your tissues. After surgery or injury, that flow can slow down, and swelling can linger.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a light, rhythmic technique that encourages fluid to move along its natural pathways. It is slow, gentle, and deeply calming. MLD may help ease post-surgical swelling, support comfort and healing, and settle a nervous system that has been through a lot. My MLD and CLT training comes from the Klose Training Institute.

Supporting Your Recovery

Post-Surgical Care

Every surgery and every body is different. Sessions are shaped around your procedure, your stage of healing, and your surgeon's guidance.

Aesthetic and cosmetic surgery
Support after liposuction, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), Brazilian butt lift (BBL), breast augmentation or reduction, facial procedures, and other body contouring. Gentle lymphatic work may help with swelling, firmness, and comfort as you heal.

Oncology surgery
Care after mastectomy, lumpectomy, lymph node removal, breast reconstruction, and other cancer-related surgeries. I bring hospital-based oncology training and ongoing work with Cancer Support Community of South Central Indiana to every session. Learn more about Oncology Massage.

Orthopedic surgery
Support after knee, hip, or shoulder replacement, ACL or rotator cuff repair, and spine surgery. Lymphatic work, scar care, and mindful movement can help you reconnect with ease and mobility.

Scar tissue work
Scars are part of your story, but they don't have to feel tight, stuck, or numb. Once your incisions have fully closed and healed, gentle hands-on scar work can help soften and mobilize tissue, improve comfort and range of motion, and help you feel at home in your body again. Scars from years ago can benefit, too.

Lymphedema Care: Complete Decongestive Therapy

Lymphedema is a chronic swelling that can develop when the lymphatic system is damaged or overwhelmed, often after cancer surgery, lymph node removal, or radiation. As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, I assist with Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), the Gold standard for lymphedema treatment.

CDT may include:

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage

  • Compression bandaging

  • Skin care guidance

  • Gentle exercise and movement

  • Lymphedema education and self-care

I also offer help re-wrapping limbs between appointments, so you feel supported throughout your care.

A physician's referral is required for Complete Decongestive Therapy and I do not accept insurance.

What to Expect

Your first visit begins with conversation. I'll ask about your surgery or diagnosis, your timeline, and how you're feeling. Then we'll create a plan together.

Please bring your surgeon's post-operative instructions, any compression garments you've been given, and your physician's referral if you're beginning Complete Decongestive Therapy. The studio is on our farm, at the end of a quiet wooded drive; give yourself a few extra minutes to arrive and settle in.

Sessions take place in a calm, unhurried space where you can rest and be heard. Each session is built around you.

I listen. I assess. I adapt.

Questions

When can I start after surgery?
It depends on your procedure and your surgeon's guidance. Many people begin lymphatic work soon after surgery, once cleared by their surgeon. MLDThis is often required or strongly advised by most cosmetic surgeons. Scar tissue work begins after incisions have fully healed.

Do I need a referral?
A physician's referral is required for Complete Decongestive Therapy. For other post-surgical services, you should always consult your surgeon before beginning any post-operative manual lymphatic drainage.

Does MLD hurt?
No. Manual Lymphatic Drainage uses very light and occasional moderate pressure. Most people find it deeply relaxing.

How many sessions will I need?
This varies with your procedure and your healing and your surgeon’s recommendations. Most of my post cosmetic surgery clients can expect better results with more regular visits. We'll talk through a plan that fits your needs.

What's the difference between lymphatic massage and Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
MLD is a specific, trained technique with a defined sequence and using mindful pressure. As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist I am trained in advanced MLD techniques, I use it as part of a thoughtful plan for your recovery, not as a general wellness add-on.

Where is your studio, and where do I park?
My private studio is on our farm in Ellettsville, just outside Bloomington, with a dedicated, paved client parking space just out front. I also see clients on Mondays and Tuesdays at Cancer Support Community of South Central Indiana, 1719 W 3rd St, Bloomington.

Do you accept HSA or FSA?
Yes. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

My work brings together several areas of specialized training and experience:

  • Certified Lymphedema Therapist
Training in Complete Decongestive Therapy, compression bandaging, and the care of cancer-related lymphedema.

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Specialized training in gentle lymphatic techniques and a deeper understanding of swelling and lymphatic changes following surgery or cancer treatment.

  • Scar Tissue Work
Continuing education in working with scars and the changes they can create in sensation, mobility, and comfort from Sharon Wheeler and Cathy Ryan.

  • Oncology & Hospital-Based Massage
Experience working within medical care and understanding how massage can thoughtfully complement treatment and recovery.

  • Cancer Exercise & Somatic Movement
As a Cancer Exercise Specialist with an MFA in Dance and a background in somatic movement, I help you reconnect with ease, strength, and trust in your body.

These aren't separate pieces of my work. A scar can change how you move. Swelling can change how you feel in your skin. Healing happens best when the whole body is considered.
